Dairy Farm Assistant

Our client is currently seeking a high calibre farm assistant with a minimum of 2 years dairy experience to join their small tight-knit team. The farm milks 450 cows, through a 30 aside herringbone on 116ha.

This is a live-in position, with a comfortable two-bedroom house on farm, which has a log burner, sleep out and garage. Being located 7 minutes from Mayfield and 10 minutes from Mt Somers, it is a picturesque part of the world to be farming, however a driver’s licence and reliable transport is essential.

On offer the package for this role includes:
• Opportunity for progression within the team.
• Usual roster 7:2, 7:2, 7:3 (Calving 6:1)
• Warm two-bedroom house (as above)
• Firewood for the log burner

Orchard 2IC

In this position you could be managing and supervising up to 70 staff in the packhouse and field, greeting and serving customers and maintaining the vines. We are currently seeking a Mainline Installer for a local Irrigation client based in Ashburton to install PVC and poly pipelines and to lay power cables in trenches. This will be a physical role and would ideally suit someone with previous experience in the industry. You will be required to have W,T,R to operate a small digger on-site and be available to work the occasional weekend when required.
This role is a permanent position and will be based in Ashburton working in the Mid and South Canterbury region.

You will be required to have:
• Previous experience with Mainline Installation in the irrigation sector

The hours are generally 7.30am start through to 5.30pm and can be 10 hour days during the peak season which is normally October through until February.

My client is looking for a Farm Hand with crop and stock experience to work alongside him on his 300ha arable farm that has been farmed by his family for 100 years. They typically grow cereals, peas, radish, carrots and parsnip. The arable part of this business is supported by wintering 3000 store lambs each year. The farm is irrigated with pivots and Roto Rainers and has up to date modern equipment which includes:

• 6m Air Seeder
• New Holland T8 (235hp)
• New Holland 6630 (115hp)
• New Holland TT4 (75hp)
• Claas 670 Combine on tracks
• SAM 24m boom self-propelled sprayer

There is a comfortable, warm 3 – 4 bedroom 80’s style house available on farm that has been double glazed and has a log burner. The house is a 300m walk from the beach and 500m from the Rangitata River Mouth for great fishing and white baiting opportunities.

Outside seasonal peaks, you will be required to work one weekend per month, and this unique opportunity provides a 40 hour work week (on average) which as far as farming goes is a rarity.

An opportunity has arisen for a Spanning Crew Team Leader to be hands on overseeing 3-6 staff with the assembly of Reinke Pivot Irrigators. Previous supervising experience in the irrigation field is ideal but applicants with sound knowledge and proven experience in irrigation should still apply. You will need to have good attention to detail along with exceptional organisational skill and the ability to effectively communicate with your team. HT Class 4 is preferred but training will be provided for the right person.

This role is a permanent position involving the assembly of centre pivot and lateral irrigators throughout the South Island and offers future career development with suppliers in USA. On occasion there will be the requirement to stay away from home but all accommodation, meals and drinks are paid for along with the supply of a vehicle. The days are Monday to Friday 7.30am to 5pm and the occasional Saturday during seasonal peaks.

Skills or experience should include:
• Sound knowledge and experience with pivot irrigators and assembly
• Mechanically mind and good with tools / machinery
