Service Technician – Timaru based role

Positions available in South Canterbury, Timaru based.

We are currently seeking a Service Technician for an Irrigation client with branches based in Ashburton and Timaru. Having been in the game of providing cost effective irrigation solutions for over a decade, they are a progressive company and a market leader in their industry.

This role is a permanent position for the right applicant and has plenty of room for growth within the company. You will be required to service pivot irrigators in the South Canterbury region which will include maintenance, repairs, servicing and fault finding. Ideally, the successful applicant will have previous experience as a Service Technician in the Irrigation sector, but those who are mechanically minded, have some electrical knowledge and have a maintenance background should still apply.

You will be required to have:
• A proven service/maintenance, mechanical or engineering background
• Be able to work autonomously
• MIG and Stick welding skills
• Diagnostic and problem solving ability
• Pump knowledge or understanding
• High level of communication
• A full driver’s license

The hours are generally 7.30am start and can be 10 hour days during the peak season which is normally October through until February. During the main irrigation season there will also be rostered weekend work every third weekend and time and a half after 50 hours.

Farm Hand

• Are you a good communicator with calm manner when working with stock?

We are looking for a Farm Hand (ideally with experience) to help out with the day to day work on a 360 ha mixed crop and stock farm, less than 15 minutes East of Ashburton. This well-established farm runs 400 ewes, 200 beef stock, fattens 1200 store lambs over winter and winter grazes dairy cows.

You will ideally have had some experience moving irrigators, doing stock work and helping out at harvest. If you had a Class 2 license it may place your application at an advantage.
The person we are looking for will:
• Have proven reliability
• Be easy going and flexible with hours
• Show initiative and have common sense

This position is drive in/drive out (no accommodation on farm) and may suit someone who is looking to broaden their skill base. Initially work will be from early January until the end of March however, for the right person this position could become permanent.

This established family farm is a busy environment where they try to be relatively self-sufficient, they fatten several thousand store lambs, sow and harvest their own crops with modern equipment and make their own baleage. During troughs in the workload there will be some general farm labour involved to fit in with the truck driving.

• The ability to be flexible with seasonal peaks and troughs
