ASHBURTON – Machinery Operator / Mechanic / Farm Hand / Engineer extraordinare

We are looking for a versatile person to work for our client on their 1,500ha property based 20 minutes out of Ashburton.  Ideally someone with a mechanical background and engineering skills would fit this role. 

This established farm is a busy environment where they try to be relatively self-sufficient, they fatten 6 – 8,000 store lambs, sow, spray and harvest their own crops with modern equipment and make their own baleage.  There is a Haushan 4000 sprayer, an excavator & digger on farm for the machinery operator with appropriate licenses. 

On a property this size, there is always R & M / improvement work that needs doing which is where your engineering & mechanical skills will come to the fore.

We are looking for a multi skilled labourer to join a team of like-minded labourers, to assist in filling, bagging and mixing seeds. The role will involve a variety of work from lifting (25kg up to 50kg with a weighing machine), stacking pallets, general labouring and loading/unloading trucks.

The successful applicant will need to be reliable and committed to the job, be comfortable working in a dusty environment and be able to work well as part of a team. There is opportunity to learn other aspects of the business so a willingness to learn and improve is essential. 

A forklift endorsement would be a plus but not essential.

This is a temporary position that could lead to a permanent role for the right person.

Days are Monday to Friday, 7.00am – 4.00pm and ½ day Saturday’s as required.

If successful, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Our client is a well-respected & established, mixed cropping farmer currently farming 530 ha and fattening 4 – 5000 store lambs. Crops grown include Cereals, potatoes and radish among others. The property is irrigated and the role will includes moving fixed linear irrigators.
The ideal candidate will 
• live out initially, 
• be a GPS guru,
• have a minimum of 2 years tractor experience with cultivation, spreading and spraying experience (or similar)
• Be fit and healthy able to do hands on stock work & general farm labouring
• Be easy-going but vigilant with common sense and initiative

Senior Farm Hand

Our Client is looking for a skilled Farm Hand to join the team on their idyllic mixed 1,500ha property. This position is based 20 minutes east of Ashburton and offers:

The successful candidate can take pride in achieving the growth targets set with 400 bull calves raised to 100kg each year, raising around 450 dairy heifers right through until they join the dairy herd and fattening 5,000 store lambs. The dairy farm is run as a separate entity which is on an additional 430ha.
The remaining acreage is dedicated to the arable side of the business and crops are grown to compliment the dairy farm as well as for seed. Alongside the stock work your duties will include:
• tractor work (cultivation, drilling, harvesting) 
• pasture management
• irrigation
• general farm maintenance

The person we are looking for will be:
• Experienced with all aspects of farming with a focus on stock (ideally more than 3 years)
• A team player who gets along easily with others
• Able to stay motivated – particularly when unsupervised
• Punctual with good time management and focus on the task at hand

There will be some flexibility required with days and hours to accommodate the seasonal peaks and a 3 bedroom family home with lots of space for children and an established garden is available.
